Digestive complaints represent more than just an irritation or a nuisance. You may have heard the saying, "You are what you eat." In reality, however, "you are what you absorb." Digestive symptoms indicate that your digestive system is not functioning optimally. And that means you are probably not absorbing all the nutrients you should be absorbing from your food. You can see why proper digestive tract functioning is central to good health.

That's why in many cases the foundation of your treatment plan may be your digestive tract. Here are some of the digestive complaints and conditions that Dr. Brist treats successfully:

  • GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disorder)
  • belching, burping
  • gas, bloating
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • nausea
  • irritable bowel, colon spasm
  • malabsorption
  • inflammation of pancreas
  • inflamed digestive tract (including colitis)
  • peptic ulcer, pre-ulcers
  • H. pylori infection
The first step in identifying the causes of your digestive complaints is the Health Scan. During this exam, Dr. Brist will grade the relative health and function of your digestive organs, pinpointing those that are most problematic. In a subsequent visit, Dr. Brist will use Muscle Response Testing (MRT) to determine whether an infection or nutritional insufficiency is causing the dysfunction and to recommend specific nutrients to help correct the problem.

Most people who are experiencing digestive symptoms have a hidden infection. You could have yeast, bacteria, parasites, or a virus in any or all of your organs, including your stomach, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, gall bladder, or liver. Alternatively, you could have inflammation that is caused by an allergy or stress. Emotions often play a role in digestive function, so Dr. Brist may recommend a BEAR Hug (Brist Emotional and Allergy Release) treatment to help relieve your symptoms and speed your healing.

If Dr. Brist believes an infection is involved in your condition, he will recommend a specific regimen of nutritional supplements, often including highly effective herbal remedies, to help eradicate the infection and support healing of your organs. You will probably find your digestive symptoms decreasing steadily during this phase of your care. Often relief is dramatic and significant even at the beginning of your program, especially if you are experiencing GERD symptoms or inflammatory symptoms of the upper digestive tract.

Following the eradication step, Dr. Brist will recommend a reinoculation program during which you will replenish the good bacteria that should populate your digestive tract. Maintaining high levels of eubacteria can help you avoid future infections.

Since infectious organisms produce toxins (poisons) that circulate throughout your entire body, it's no wonder GI infections can make you feel so tired and worn out. Your liver is responsible for clearing these poisons from your body, so it often becomes toxic, as well. That's why Dr. Brist may recommend a liver detoxification program as a follow-up to your digestive cleanse. Most patients find that their energy levels increase dramatically once they have eliminated their hidden infections and have completed a liver detox.
